Richard Ashcroft Honors Late Dog Betsy with Song Dedication at The O2, London
Richard Ashcroft has paid public tribute to his recently deceased dog, Betsy, while wrapping a run of headline shows. He thanked crowds who attended concerts in Liverpool and London.
Tribute at The O2
The former Verve frontman performed at The O2 Arena in London on 28 March. During that show he dedicated the 1997 single “The Drugs Don’t Work” to his Jack Russell, Betsy.
Ashcroft posted a message and home footage to Instagram after the gigs. He revealed the dog had been part of his family for 19 years.

Onstage, he addressed audience members who had lost pets. He noted how integral animals can be to family life and acknowledged the pain of bereavement.
