Zapopan Opens Valdepeñas Avenue After Year-Long Construction
Following a year-long construction campaign, the municipality of Zapopan reopened Valdepeñas Avenue. The ceremony took place Thursday afternoon in a fast-growing residential area.
Project scope and cost
The rehabilitation covered 700 meters of roadway. Municipal authorities reported an investment of 54.6 million pesos.
Works included 12,520 square meters of hydraulic concrete pavement. The project added and upgraded key utilities.
- 1,400 meters of main drainage line installed.
- 1,400 meters of potable water line installed.
- 530 meters of stormwater line installed.
- 120 household discharges renewed and 120 household connections replaced.
- New sidewalks, crosswalks, and bollards.
- Horizontal and vertical signage, public lighting, and urban furniture added.
- Afforestation and landscape works completed.
Local businesses and residents felt the impact
Merchants reported sharp sales declines during the works. One business owner estimated about an 80% drop.
Access for cars was limited during construction. Many customers reached stores only on foot.
Nearby residents had to change routes and parking habits. One family said commutes increased by roughly ten minutes.
Perceptions after completion
Business owners acknowledged the improved appearance of the avenue. They said the upgrades enhance the commercial image of the street.
Residents also praised the finished works. Yet many noted the disruption lasted longer than expected.
Official statements and future expectations
Isaura Amador Nieto represented the mayor at the reopening. She is the general coordinator of Cercanía Ciudadana.
She described the intervention as a major infrastructure investment for the zone. The official said the work follows the municipality’s public-works model.
Authorities expect property values to rise. They also forecast increased foot traffic for businesses and safer access for residents and workers.
