Authorities Report Tiger Woods Found with Hydrocodone, Bloodshot Eyes at Crash Scene
Filmogaz.com reviewed a Martin County sheriff’s office report released Tuesday about a vehicle crash involving Tiger Woods. Authorities report that he displayed signs of impairment at the crash scene.
Observations at the scene
Deputies noted Woods had bloodshot eyes and a glassy appearance. His pupils were dilated, and he was sweating while speaking with officers.
He moved slowly and appeared lethargic, the report said. When asked about medication, Woods said, “I take a few.”
Evidence found
Officers found two white pills in Woods’ pocket. The pills were identified as hydrocodone, an opioid used to treat pain.
The report described his manner and physical state as consistent with impairment. Deputies documented those observations at the crash scene.
Crash details
The incident occurred on a beachside residential road on Jupiter Island. Woods’ Land Rover clipped a pickup truck and rolled onto its side.
Authorities said the vehicle was traveling at “high speeds” before the collision. The truck sustained about $5,000 in damage.
Testing, arrest and charges
Woods agreed to a breath test that showed no alcohol. He refused a urine test, the report said.
He was arrested and released on bail about eight hours later. Charges include driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
Legal context
Florida law was changed last year to make refusal of breath, blood, or urine tests a misdemeanor. That applies even to a first offense.
Responses and context
Neither Woods nor the other driver were injured, the report noted. His agent, Mark Steinberg, did not respond to messages seeking comment.
No statement has come from Woods’ camp or the PGA Tour. Woods serves on the PGA Tour board and chairs a committee reshaping the competition model.
Past incidents
The report also noted Woods has been involved in other crashes in prior years. Authorities included that background in their account of the scene.
