BYU Faces KU Again in WBIT Semifinal Showdown

Kansas and BYU meet Monday afternoon in a WBIT semifinal at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita. The game is set for 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026.

Paths to the semifinal

Kansas entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Jayhawks defeated Troy, Rice and San Diego State. All three wins occurred in Lawrence after top-seeded Texas A&M was eliminated earlier.

BYU advanced through its bracket as a No. 1 seed. The Cougars beat Alabama A&M, Missouri and Stanford, each by at least 15 points. BYU had also won two games in the Big 12 tournament but missed selection for the NCAA field.

Recent meeting and form

The teams met on Feb. 4 at Allen Fieldhouse. Kansas won 81-60 after a 32-32 halftime tie.

Freshman forward Jaliya Davis produced a dominant second half. She scored 23 points on perfect 9-for-9 shooting and recorded her first career double-double.

Momentum and records

BYU finished a game ahead of Kansas in the Big 12 standings. The Cougars have since won eight of nine games entering the semifinal.

Kansas had an early 1-6 conference start but improved later in the season. Both teams recovered to reach this elimination game.

Key players to watch

Jaliya Davis is a primary threat for Kansas. Senior forward Lilly Meister and Regan Williams have also provided recent frontcourt production.

BYU relies heavily on sophomore guard Delaney Gibb. The 5-foot-10 guard from Raymond, Alberta, posted 29- and 27-point efforts against Missouri and Stanford in the WBIT.

All-freshman scorer Olivia Hamlin averages 12.5 points per game. Kambree Barber recently moved into BYU’s starting five after an injury to Marya Hudgins.

Frontcourt and role players

Center Lara Rohkohl, a 6-foot-3 transfer from Charleston, averages 8.2 points and 6.6 rebounds. Freshman Bolanle Yussuf has also been impactful on the glass.

Brinley Cannon and Sydney Benally round out BYU’s rotation. KU will need to limit BYU’s offensive rebounding to control second-chance points.

Tactical matchup and trends

BYU grades out as one of the Big 12’s better defensive teams. The Cougars rank third in opponent field-goal percentage at 36.9 percent.

They are also second in the league in opponent 3-point percentage at 27.3 percent. Kansas will test BYU’s interior defense while guarding against perimeter shooting.
