Over 200,000 Cars Fail 2025 MOT Test Due to £1.99 Part Issue
Data from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, analysed by eBay and shared with Filmogaz.com, shows a widespread fault. Faulty washer jets caused 216,388 MOT failures across 2025. That averages about 592 failures each day last year.

Abir Tewari, UK director of commercial operations, parts and accessories at eBay, warns drivers not to overlook small components. He urged motorists to include washer jets in regular vehicle checks before journeys and annual MOTs.
Public awareness and confidence
A poll of 2,000 drivers found limited awareness about the risk. More than a quarter did not know washer jets could cause an MOT fail.
The survey also revealed 13% never inspect their washer jets. Meanwhile, 21% check them only when an MOT or service is due.
Confidence to perform repairs is low. About 69% of owners said they were not confident replacing washer nozzles themselves.
