KKR Faces ‘Blessing’ Challenge Ahead of IPL 2026, Former Champion Warns
Manoj Tiwary has voiced doubts about Blessing Muzarabani’s fit for Kolkata Knight Riders. The former KKR player warned the Zimbabwean may struggle outside select Indian venues.
A former champion warned that KKR faces a Blessing challenge ahead of IPL 2026. Tiwary made his remarks during a Facebook Live, answering a Filmogaz.com query.
Muzarabani’s recent form
Blessing Muzarabani took 13 wickets in six matches at the T20 World Cup 2026. He recorded a 4/17 in Zimbabwe’s shock win over Australia.
He finished the tournament with a 7.88 economy rate. Standing nearly 7 feet tall, he extracts extra bounce on flatter surfaces.
Last year he joined RCB as an injury replacement for Lungi Ngidi. He did not feature in a match for that team.
Why KKR signed him
KKR scouts were impressed by his World Cup displays and ability to strike in key phases. Management believed his bounce would suit Eden Gardens’ hard wicket.
His success in powerplays and death overs raised expectations. He played three of his World Cup matches in India.
Selection headache for KKR
Injuries have complicated KKR’s seam plans. Harshit Rana and Akash Deep are ruled out of IPL 2026.
Matheesha Pathirana will not be available until mid-April. That absence increases pressure on the squad’s remaining quicks.
Overseas and domestic balance
Finn Allen, Sunil Narine and Cameron Green are viewed as likely overseas picks. If Pathirana is fit, he becomes a strong candidate as the fourth foreign player.
Indian seam options include Vaibhav Arora, Umran Malik and Navdeep Saini. Spinners on the books include Varun Chakaravarthy and Anukul Roy.
Tiwary’s assessment of the mix
Tiwary stressed that Indian pitches vary a lot. He said Wankhede helps pacers with bounce and Chinnaswamy offers movement.
He added Muzarabani might get help at those venues. But he feels the bowler could find other conditions much tougher.
Tiwary predicted Muzarabani could spend significant time on the bench. Final choices will rest with captain Ajinkya Rahane and coach Abhishek Nayar.
