New Cultural Initiatives Engage Aveiro’s Senior Community

The Aveiro municipality has scheduled several cultural actions aimed at the city’s senior population. The activities form part of the Prescrições Culturais programme.

Programme and schedule

30 March — Trocadores de Histórias

On 30 March the performance-show Trocadores de Histórias will be presented. The venue is Casa de Música, Quarteirão de Artes e Cultura, in Aradas. The session starts at 14:30 and is intended for the Rede Aveiro Sénior.

15 April — Biblioteca Municipal Itinerante at Hospital de Aveiro

On 15 April the travelling municipal library visits Hospital de Aveiro. Patients, family members, health workers, and visitors may borrow books and magazines. The service offers varied information supports for a broad audience.

20 April — Baile Tradicional at Feira de Março

On 20 April the programme A Cultura faz bem will stage a Baile Tradicional. The event takes place at the Feira de Março grounds. It invites attendees to celebrate popular music, dance, and intergenerational exchange.

Objectives and context

The initiative seeks to expand cultural access beyond conventional venues. These new cultural initiatives aim to engage Aveiro’s senior community in familiar public spaces.

The project stems from the Strategic Plan for Culture 2019–2030. It was implemented under the Aveiro 2024 programme, the city’s year as Portuguese Capital of Culture.

Prescrições Culturais creates programming cycles to encourage cultural habits. It targets settings where cultural activity is less common, such as gardens and hospital waiting areas, including ULSRA.
