Alex Fitzpatrick Claims First DP World Tour Win at Hero Indian Open
Alex Fitzpatrick secured his first DP World Tour win at the Hero Indian Open. He finished two shots clear to claim the title.
Sunday turnaround
Fitzpatrick began the final round four shots behind defending champion Eugenio Chacarra. That deficit widened to six after five holes.
From the sixth, Fitzpatrick surged. He recorded eight birdies across a 12-hole stretch and took the lead at the 15th.
Chacarra meanwhile unpeeled. He carded six bogeys in the round, including drops at 16 and 17.
Fitzpatrick finished with a double bogey at 18. He signed for a three-under 69 and ended the week on nine under par.
Runner-up and leaderboard
Chacarra posted a three-over 75 to finish second on seven under. England’s Andy Sullivan, France’s Ugo Coussaud and South Africa’s M. J. Daffue tied for third at five under.
Personal milestone and reaction
The win came in Fitzpatrick’s 87th DP World Tour start. He is 27 years old.
He described the week as special and emotional. Fitzpatrick said he plans to see his parents and meet his brother in Florida.
He also joked he would celebrate with a glass of Coca-Cola. He admitted feeling mentally exhausted but ecstatic.
Brotherly double and wider context
The victory followed Matt Fitzpatrick’s one-shot win at the Valspar Championship in Florida a week earlier. The brothers became the first siblings to win in consecutive weeks across the PGA and DP World Tours.
The next regular DP World Tour stop is the Volvo China Open in Shanghai from April 23. The season’s first major, The Masters at Augusta, takes place from April 9.
