Missing North Olmsted 4-Year-Old Safely Located in Puerto Rico
The U.S. Marshals recovered a missing 4-year-old autistic boy from North Olmsted in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico. The recovery ended a week-long search after his non-custodial mother did not return him to his father.
The child is non-verbal and has autism. His father reported him missing to North Olmsted Police on Mar. 16 after a three-day visit.
Investigation and recovery
Investigators found the mother had left her home and her vehicle was recovered nearby. Other evidence indicated they had fled to Puerto Rico.
Information about a possible location was forwarded to U.S. Marshals in Puerto Rico. They located the woman and the child in Guayanilla within a day.
The child was safely recovered and appeared unharmed. Authorities described the recovery as quick and successful.
Charges and custody
On Monday, police charged 37-year-old Evelyn Otero with eight counts of interference with custody. She remains in custody in Puerto Rico pending extradition to Cuyahoga County.

The U.S. Marshals’ SPEAR Unit led the operation. They coordinated with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office and North Olmsted Police.
