High-Speed Police Chase Ends with Driver Crashing Into Wall, Toddler in Car
A 29-year-old man admitted multiple motoring and drug offences at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on March 26. Jake Davenport pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, drug driving and possession of controlled drugs.
Court pleas and charges
Davenport conceded he had driven dangerously on the A5092 at Millom on August 9 last year. He also admitted possessing Class B cannabis and Class C valium.
The hearing recorded his drug-driving blood result as 6.7 µg/L of cannabis. The prosecutable limit is 2.0 µg/L.
What happened at the scene
Police pursued an Audi A3 that Davenport was driving. The incident followed a high-speed police chase and culminated with the car crashing into a wall.
A three-year-old child was travelling in the vehicle at the time. The collision caused visible damage to the wall beside the road.
Prosecution view and court process
Prosecutor Peter Kelly told the court the case displayed the features of an A1 offence. He noted the presence of the child and the damage resulting from the collision.
Magistrates ordered a pre-sentence report and adjourned sentencing to Preston Crown Court on May 7. Davenport was granted unconditional bail and made subject to an interim driving disqualification.
