Dime and half dollar details

The Liberty Dime nods to the 1790s depictions of Lady Liberty. Designers drew from early American coinage.

The half dollar will portray Lady Liberty looking ahead to another 250 years. The composition highlights forward gaze and optimism.

Obverse inscriptions, timing and intent

Each redesigned obverse will display dual dates reading 1776-2026. The Mint calls these semi-quincentennial redesigns.

U.S. Mint Director Paul Hollis said the effort represents the most significant coin redesign in a century. He added he expects Americans to save and share the coins.

The US Mint’s commemorative coin designs for dime, quarter and half dollar aim to honor the nation’s founding. Collectors and the public can expect the pieces to carry historical themes and national symbolism.
