Dame Joan Collins Reveals Grandchildren’s Nickname and a Cause She Champions

At 92, Dame Joan Collins is relishing life as a grandmother. She has three children: Alexander Newley, Tara Newley and Katyana Kass. Her four grandchildren are Miel, Weston, Ava and Deia, and they affectionately call her “DJ”.

Family and the nickname

Dame Joan Collins revealed the grandchildren’s nickname and discussed the cause she champions during an exclusive interview with Filmogaz.com. She says she spends quality time with them and enjoys their handmade gifts.

Charity work and involvement

She serves as vice-president of Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. Joan has supported the charity since 2003 and visits at least once a year to meet families and have tea. During visits she takes photos and receives handmade cards from the children.

She often donates costume jewellery to fundraising auctions. Joan also gifted a Valentino clutch bag to be sold for charity. These items help raise vital funds for patient services and family support.

The charity needs to raise at least £12m annually and relies heavily on donations. The Shooting Star Podcast launches this spring across major platforms, with Joan as the first guest. Each celebrity guest will donate a personal item to support the hospice.

She attended the Shooting Star Ball in London in 2021 and continues to appear at events. For updates, follow @sschospices or visit shootingstar.org.uk.

Career and public image

Collins rose to global fame for her role as Alexis Colby in Dynasty. Rumours of a feud with co-star Linda Evans were untrue, she said. They were simply characters on screen and did not socialise off set.

She is married to film producer Percy Gibson, her fifth husband. He is 32 years her junior, and Collins often speaks of a strong zest for life inherited from her family. She notes her father lived to 86 and inspired that attitude.

Her long-term work with Shooting Star reflects a sustained personal commitment. Fans can expect more conversations and charity items as the podcast series continues.
