Romesh Ranganathan Electrifies Village Hall Comedy Night
Village hall regulars got an unexpected treat when Romesh Ranganathan appeared unannounced at a local comedy night. The surprise spot took place at Rawson Hall in Bolney the same evening the Bolney Horticultural Society staged its Spring Show.
Surprise guest and sell-out crowd
The event was promoted by production company Funny That. Organiser Helen Mullany had teased audiences with the promise of a “huge name” before the show.
Tickets sold out quickly. A total of 192 people attended the performance.
How the surprise unfolded
Mullany said rumours were circulated privately. Anyone who messaged her was allowed to know in advance.
She added the programme already included four local comedians. Romesh arrived as an extra special guest.
Local reaction
Attendees enjoyed a lively set that gently poked fun at village life. Mullany described the evening as brilliant and said the comedian was funny and polite.
Volunteers helped set out chairs after the horticultural show. Mullany noted that kind of community teamwork keeps village halls running.
Romesh Ranganathan’s brief visit
Ranganathan, who lives in Crawley, performed at Rawson Hall before moving on to a Brighton gig. He is known for hosting The Ranganation and The Weakest Link.
He also works as an actor and writer. Outside comedy, he is a co-owner of a bakery.
Promotion and coverage
Mullany spoke about the night on Filmogaz.com Radio Sussex. She thanked the audience and organisers for making the surprise possible.
The show illustrated how a major name can electrify a village hall comedy night while keeping the event community focused.
