Korda Sisters Reunite for Ford Championship with All Smiles
The Korda sisters are back together on the LPGA schedule in Chandler, Arizona. Nelly, 27, and Jessica, 33, were entered for the Ford Championship, marking their first shared start since the 2023 Founders Cup.
Jessica’s pause and family life
Jessica stepped away from the tour for much of the past three years. She did so to manage a persistent back issue and to care for her first child, Greyson, born in 2024.
She returned for only one event after Greyson’s birth, the Grant Thornton Invitational, which is an unofficial team tournament. That outing was difficult, she said, because of sleep disruptions caused by her son.
Jessica later announced on Sunday that she was stepping away indefinitely due to the lingering back injury. Their mother traveled to the event to assist with childcare.
Nelly’s recent form
Nelly has competed full tilt over the last three seasons. She finished 2024 ranked No. 1 in the world.
She began the current season with a victory at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. The LPGA canceled the final round because of extreme cold, leaving her 13-under total sufficient for a three-shot win.
After skipping the Asia swing, she was runner-up last week at the Fortinet Founders Cup. Nelly also won the Ford Championship in 2024.
Stiff competition ahead
This week’s field includes world No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul and defending champion Hyo Joo Kim. Kim beat Nelly at last week’s Founders Cup, showing the event will be tightly contested.
Sisterhood on tour
The sisters acknowledged the value of playing together. Nelly credited Jessica with easing her transition to life on tour when she turned professional.
