Storm Alert: Evening Thunderstorms to Hit Columbus

Filmogaz.com is warning residents in Columbus to prepare for a line of strong storms tonight. Showers are already moving into southwest and southern Ohio this morning as a warm front lifts north.

Today’s conditions

Temperatures began in the upper 50s and will climb to near 78 degrees this afternoon. Southwest winds of 10–20+ mph will make the air feel humid and breezy.

Storm development is expected late this afternoon in the Lower Great Lakes. A cold front will push those storms south into the region.

Timing and severe risk

Storm timing may shift, but current guidance gives these arrival windows. Northern Ohio: 5 PM–8 PM. Central Ohio: around 9 PM–11 PM. Southern Ohio: after midnight.

Northern counties carry the higher threat with a Level 3 of 5 on the severity scale. Southern counties are at Level 2 of 5.

Primary hazards

  • Very large hail and damaging winds possible in Northern Ohio.
  • Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out early on.
  • As storms form into a line, the tornado and large-hail threat may decrease.
  • Strong straight-line winds remain likely across the area.

Overnight impacts

Scattered strong to severe storms are expected to continue overnight. Rain totals of 0.5 to 1.5 inches could cause localized flooding.

Rain should taper off by daybreak Friday. Temperatures will fall quickly overnight, possibly into the mid-30s.

Safety reminders

Have multiple ways to receive watches and warnings tonight. Do not rely solely on outdoor tornado sirens for notification.

Follow local emergency instructions and secure loose outdoor items before the wind increases.

Friday through the week

Friday will be much cooler with an early temperature near the mid-30s. Highs will top out around 45 with north winds of 10–15 mph.

Saturday starts in the 20s and reaches near 47 with mostly sunny skies. Sunday will be milder with a high around 61.

Next week forecast

Temperatures rebound early next week. Monday should reach near 68, with isolated showers possible. Tuesday and Wednesday move into the mid-70s.

Rain chances are about 40% on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday’s chance rises to roughly 60% with scattered storms possible.
