Rangers Pitcher Discovers Team Status in Surprising Mound Visit During Game
In Arlington, Texas, rookie right-hander Carter Baumler received unexpected news on the mound. Texas manager Skip Schumaker informed him he had earned a spot on the opening day roster.

Baumler was pitching in the fifth inning against the Kansas City Royals when the visit occurred. He had retired the first two batters before Schumaker left the dugout and walked to the mound.

Baumler was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth round of the 2020 amateur draft. He was drafted out of high school in Iowa and underwent Tommy John surgery soon after.
He pitched in the Orioles system from 2022 through 2025. The club left him off its 40-man roster last fall.
Pittsburgh selected him in the first round of the Rule 5 draft at the winter meetings in December. The Pirates then traded him to Texas on the same day.
