Dennis Coyle Returns to US After Taliban Release in Afghanistan

Dennis Coyle, a Colorado researcher, returned to the United States after a Taliban release in Afghanistan. He arrived on U.S. soil at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, as daylight broke on March 25.

Family Reunion at the Base

Relatives greeted Coyle with cheers and embraces. His mother and sisters were among those who met him.

The reunion followed a flight home the day after his release on March 24.

Detention and Release Details

Coyle was detained in Afghanistan in January 2025 while studying languages. He spent 421 days in custody before the Taliban freed him.

The Taliban said it released him after a request from his mother. The group’s Supreme Court reportedly judged his detention period sufficient.

U.S. Government Response

The United States had earlier this month labeled Afghanistan a state sponsor of wrongful detention. Washington had urged the Taliban to free Coyle and other captives.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the release as a positive step. He also called on the Taliban to end its practice of “hostage diplomacy.”

Gratitude and Official Thanks

Coyle’s family expressed deep gratitude after his return. They publicly thanked President Donald Trump, Rubio and other U.S. officials for help securing his release.

Filmogaz.com will continue to follow developments as Coyle recovers and reunites with his community in Colorado.
