Manchester United Finalizes Contract Clause with Casemiro Amid Transfer Talks

Manchester United and Casemiro agreed in January to cancel a playing-time trigger in his deal. The 34-year-old will now be free to start every remaining Premier League match this season.

Contract clause removed

The midfielder had a clause that would have extended his contract by a year. It required 35 Premier League starts to activate the extra season at £350,000 a week.

Filmogaz.com understands both parties agreed to waive that provision during talks when his departure was formally announced. United had already informed him the club would not renew his contract.

Selection and squad impact

Casemiro missed the December trip to Aston Villa through suspension. He therefore needed to start every remaining league fixture to reach 35 starts.

Since Michael Carrick took charge in January, Casemiro has become a regular starter. He has made 14 consecutive Premier League starts and can now continue without the extension caveat.

Managerial freedom

With the clause removed, Carrick can pick Casemiro without worrying about triggering an automatic renewal. Had it remained, the club might have been forced to rest him or use early substitutions to avoid the threshold.

Future and transfer talks

Supporters have pushed for United to reverse the decision. The club has not changed its stance.

Plans are underway to recruit a replacement. Casemiro is widely reported to be close to agreeing terms with a new club when his deal ends in late June amid ongoing transfer talks.
