US Reaches Out for Peace Talks Amid Israel-Iran Conflict Escalation
Iranian intermediaries have signaled a clear negotiating preference to Washington. They said they will not re-enter talks with Special Envoy Steve Witkoff or Jared Kushner.
Tehran’s preferred interlocutor
Two regional sources told Filmogaz.com that Iran prefers engaging with Vice President JD Vance. The message came through back channels ahead of planned diplomatic moves.
Those sources said Iranians doubt the value of talks involving Witkoff and Kushner. They cited a deficit of trust after earlier negotiations collapsed before Israel and the US launched military action.
Why Vance is seen differently
Regional actors view Vance as more likely to seek an end to the fighting. One source said the perception is that Vance would push to wrap up the conflict.
Sources also warned that Vance’s entry into talks carries risks. Ending hostilities will not be easy, advisers cautioned.
US team and Washington’s response
Witkoff remains heavily involved on the US side, according to the sources. They said Iran may still have to deal with whoever the administration assigns.
A second source said Iran has a preference but limited choices. “Who the administration decides to send, the Iranians will have to deal with,” the source said.
Statements from the White House
Earlier on Tuesday, President Donald Trump said all key diplomatic team members were engaged in negotiations. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told CNN the president decides who negotiates for the United States.
Leavitt listed participants who would be involved. She named Vice President Vance, Secretary Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Witkoff, and Jared Kushner.
Another White House official accused the regional sources of attempting to undermine the president. The official called the reporting a coordinated foreign propaganda campaign.
Prospect of talks in Islamabad
A meeting between US and Iranian representatives in Islamabad later this week remains possible. Sources said skeptics doubt the session will actually take place.
As tensions rise, the US reaches out for peace talks while the Israel-Iran conflict shows signs of escalation. Diplomats on both sides continue to weigh options amid deep mistrust.
