Florida Special Elections: Live Results for March 24 Legislative Races
Three vacancies in the Florida Legislature are being decided in special elections on March 24. Polls close at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Filmogaz.com will provide updates and context as results arrive.
State Senate: District 14
The Senate currently shows Republicans with a 27-11 edge. There is one independent and one vacancy. Senators serve four-year terms, and even-numbered districts face elections this year.
District 14 covers parts of Tampa and nearby areas. Jay Collins resigned in August after his appointment as lieutenant governor. Collins won the district 55% to 45% in 2022, making this race moderately competitive.
The nominees are state Representative Josie Tomkow for the Republicans and Brian Nathan for the Democrats. Nathan is a Navy veteran and a union leader.
State House overview
In the 120-seat Florida House, Republicans hold an 83-33 advantage. Four seats remain vacant. Members serve two-year terms, with regular elections scheduled for November.
House District 51
Tomkow resigned as of yesterday to pursue the Senate seat. She was reelected 57% to 43% in 2024.
District 51 straddles Interstate 4, roughly midway between Tampa and Orlando. The nominees are Republican Hilary Holley and Democrat Edwin Perez.
House District 87
District 87 lies along coastal Palm Beach County. Mike Caruso left his seat in August after his appointment as Palm Beach County Clerk and Comptroller.
Caruso was reelected by a 19-point margin in 2024. The seat has drawn heightened attention because it includes Mar-a-Lago.
Republican Jon Maples and Democrat Emily Gregory are the nominees. Both won more than 80% in special primaries last January.
House District 52
The special election for District 52 was canceled. Republican Samantha Scott faced no opponent after the lone Democrat withdrew in November.
Scott is eligible to be seated after today.
House District 113
District 113, in the Miami area, became vacant when Vicki Lopez resigned in November. She joined the Miami-Dade County Commission.
A special primary is set for August 18, with the special election on November 3. Those dates coincide with the regular two-year election.
