macOS 26.4 Launches Soon, Introducing Four New Features
Filmogaz.com reports that macOS 26.4 is approaching release for devices running macOS Tahoe. The update will reach all Apple Silicon Macs and some remaining Intel machines.
Apple plans to phase out Intel models later this year when macOS 27 rolls out. Beta testing reveals several notable additions and some platform gaps.
What to expect in the near term
macOS 26.4 is launching soon and is introducing four new features among other changes. The beta highlights new emojis, a Mac Charge Limit, Freeform access in Creator Studio, and a return of Safari’s compact tab bar.
Emoji additions
Apple regularly ships new emojis with .4 point releases. The current beta brings eight new emoji figures plus additional skin tone modifiers.
These updates follow the Unicode Consortium’s v17.0 recommendations. Recent releases added far fewer characters than earlier years.
Battery Charge Limit comes to Mac
The Charge Limit option expands to Macs in System Settings under Battery. Users can choose a stop-charging level between 80% and 100%.
Charge Limit differs from the existing Optimized Battery Charging feature introduced in macOS Big Sur. Apple previously added Charge Limit to iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and some AirPods.
Freeform joins Apple Creator Studio
Apple Creator Studio launched in January 2026. The bundle costs $12.99 per month or $129 per year.
Creator Studio includes Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Pixelmator Pro, Motion Compressor, MainStage, Keynote, Pages, and Numbers. macOS 26.4 adds Freeform to that list.
- Freeform first arrived in December 2022 alongside iOS 16.2 and macOS Ventura 13.1.
- Creator Studio subscribers get advanced image creation and editing tools.
- Subscribers also gain premium content, app integration, and an exclusive app icon.
Safari compact tab bar returns
Apple removed the Compact tab bar during the Tahoe redesign. Beta builds of macOS 26.4 restore that layout option.
The compact mode places tabs on a single row. The classic mode keeps tabs below the search field.
Platform differences and omissions
Not all iOS 26.4 additions are present in the macOS beta. Redesigned playlists and albums for Apple Music are absent.
The Upcoming Concerts tab is not included in macOS 26.4. Apple Podcasts is also missing the new HLS-based video experience.
These omissions create a widening gap between Apple platforms for this release. The features may arrive in a future update.
Developer and privacy notes
macOS Tahoe previously added Advanced Fingerprinting Protection for Safari. It also introduced a Safari Web Extension Packager.
The Packager simplifies uploads to App Store Connect for developer extensions. These changes aim to improve privacy and developer workflows.
Filmogaz.com will continue to monitor the macOS 26.4 beta ahead of the public rollout. Expect final release timing with broader macOS 27 plans later this year.
