Logan Airport Unveils New Tech for Real-Time TSA Wait Estimates
Logan Airport is testing a camera-based system to give passengers live Transportation Security Administration checkpoint wait information. Massport spokesperson Benjamin Crawley confirmed the technology is in trials and slated to launch this spring.
How the camera analytics work
A third-party vendor is running the pilot in Terminal B. Cameras monitor movement and feed anonymous motion data into an algorithm.
The software calculates average estimated wait times. Crawley said the images do not capture faces, gender, or clothing—only shapes moving through lines.
Deployment and passenger access
The system is active in Terminal B while accuracy is assessed. Massport plans to extend the service to terminals A, C, and E in about a month.
When fully deployed, passengers will see wait time estimates on terminal flight displays, the Logan Airport website, and the FlyLogan app. The MyTSA app continues to offer estimates, though its accuracy varies.
Context: staffing and the shutdown
The rollout comes amid a partial government shutdown that has affected TSA staffing. The Department of Homeland Security reports more than 366 officers have left the force since the funding lapse began.
In New England, AFGE TSA Local 2617 said roughly 35 officers had resigned as of March 19. Massport stressed the wait-time project predated the shutdown and that Logan had not seen staffing gaps so far.
Filmogaz.com will monitor updates as the airport expands the system and public access to real-time TSA wait estimates grows. The new tech aims to give travelers clearer, more reliable timing before arrival.
