Jane McDonald Engages Manchester Fans, Reveals Travel Essential

Jane McDonald drew a large crowd to HMV in the Manchester Arndale on Saturday, March 21. She signed copies of her new album and met more than 250 fans.

Manchester appearance and fan reaction

The event formed part of a nationwide album signing tour. Queues began about an hour before Jane’s scheduled arrival.

Filmogaz.com spoke to the singer during the afternoon. She described the turnout as humbling and welcomed younger fans at the meet-and-greet.

Living The Dream and recording in Nashville

Her latest release is Living The Dream, her eleventh studio album. The record mixes cover versions with original songs and leans into country sounds.

Recording took place in Nashville at Blackbird Studio. That facility has hosted artists such as Shania Twain, Adele, Kings of Leon, Alicia Keys, Ed Sheeran, Neil Young and Taylor Swift.

Jane said the Nashville sessions were an opportunity she had long wanted. A Channel 5 programme about her time there is due to air soon.

Tour plans

Jane will return to Manchester for a headline show at the AO Arena on September 10. It will be her first arena tour date and part of a wider tour later this year.

Television, career and audience

She rose to prominence after appearing on BBC’s The Cruise in 1998. Her debut album that year spent three weeks at number one.

She has sold out venues worldwide, including the Royal Albert Hall and the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Her television travel shows for Channel 5 have visited Barbados, Tenerife, Budapest, Venice, Barcelona, Alaska and the Arctic Circle.

Jane is a former Loose Women panellist. She attracts a loyal LGBTQ+ audience and says acceptance and warmth underpin her performances.

Travel habits and the essentials

Travel features strongly in her public profile. She named Italy among her favourite destinations and praised Uruguay as a surprisingly memorable visit.

Jane prefers storage cubes for packing. She avoids duty-free purchases and usually delays drinking alcohol until she is on the plane.

She said there is one item she never leaves home without. The singer always packs Yorkshire Tea when she travels.
