Man Charged with Shooting Woman, Kidnapping Kids Returns to Upstate for Trial
A 30-year-old man is scheduled for bond court in Spartanburg County on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities say he is accused of shooting a woman and taking two children.
Alleged attack and abduction
Law enforcement says the incident happened the morning of March 20. It occurred at the Rodeway Inn on New Cut Road.
Officials report the suspect shot a woman in the head. He then allegedly abducted two children, ages 4 and 6.
AMBER Alert and search
An AMBER Alert was issued after the children were reported missing. Local and regional agencies joined the search.
FLOCK automated license-plate cameras picked up the suspect’s SUV in Towns County, Georgia. Deputies located the vehicle and took the suspect into custody.
Children found safe
Authorities confirmed the two children were recovered unharmed. They were reunited with investigators during the arrest.
Charges and custody status
Officials identified the suspect as Juan Carlos Morales, 30. The Towns County Sheriff’s Office released his mugshot after the arrest.
He faces counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Deputies say Morales waived extradition back to Spartanburg County on March 23.
