Disney+ Renews ‘Wonder Man’ for Exciting Second Season
Marvel Studios announced on Monday that the MCU dramedy will return to Disney+. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley are confirmed to reprise their roles.
Series co-creators Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest will also return to the production team. Disney+ has renewed Wonder Man, setting up an exciting second season.
Cast and creators
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays Simon Williams. Ben Kingsley returns as Trevor Slattery.
Destin Daniel Cretton will serve as director and producer on the new season. Andrew Guest returns as showrunner and executive producer.
Premise and setup
The show follows Simon Williams, a struggling actor hiding energy-based superpowers to avoid blacklisting. He seeks his big break in Hollywood.
Simon forms a friendship with Trevor Slattery, a washed-up star once known for posing as The Mandarin. They audition for an updated Wonder Man remake.
Unknown to Simon, Trevor works with the Department of Damage Control. Their plan is to expose Simon’s powers and keep him out of Hollywood.
Reception and tone
The series was originally planned as a miniseries. Strong word-of-mouth and audience response prompted renewal for a second season.
Critics and viewers praised the leads’ chemistry and performances. The show focuses on character dynamics and Hollywood satire rather than heavy superhero action.

Comic origins and MCU significance
Simon Williams was created by Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, and Don Heck. This marks his first appearance in the MCU.
The comics portray Williams in many roles: hero, villain, actor, pacifist, and Avenger. The series treats Wonder Man as a film character Simon idolized and later assumes.

- Daredevil: Born Again is slated for three seasons.
- Agatha All Along and VisionQuest spun out of WandaVision.
- Animated renewals include What If…?, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and X-Men ’97.
