Baseball Team Defeated by Walk-Off Single
North Carolina A&T fell 11-10 to William & Mary at Plumeri Park in Williamsburg, Va., on Sunday. The defeat completed a three-game sweep and dropped the Aggies to 4-18 overall and 2-7 in the Coastal Athletic Association.
Key moments
Senior Andrew Tinsley hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning. His blast followed singles by freshman Carter Roberts and sophomore Savoi Edwards. Since March 15, Tinsley is 5-for-15 with four runs, three homers, and six RBIs in four games.
In the ninth, WMU reliever Hank Lippman struck out Luis Gomez, but catcher Witt Scafidi allowed a dropped third strike and produced a wild throw. Marcus Bradshaw pinch-ran and was soon picked off. Lippman then issued a walk to Reginald Tuggle III.
Jett Humphreys entered after Tuggle stole second. He got Nick DiCarlo to fly out and struck out Tyler Smith to escape further damage. Later in the bottom of the ninth, Kevin Francella homered to tie the game at 10.
Jamie Laskofski followed with a double, placing the winning run in scoring position. Graduate RHP Kobie Cushing entered in relief. Trey Christman delivered a walk-off RBI single to end the game, with the baseball team defeated by a walk-off single.
Player notes
Nick DiCarlo extended his hitting streak to 12 games, going 1-for-6 on Sunday. He has reached base safely in 14 straight contests.
Carter Roberts finished 2-for-4, scored a run and drove in one. Roberts also recorded his first collegiate hit earlier in the game.
Reginald Tuggle and Savoi Edwards each collected two hits. Junior Boaz Harper hit a home run and scored twice.
For William & Mary, Jamie Laskofski led the offense by going 3-for-4 and scoring three runs.
Records and next steps
William & Mary improved to 10-12 overall and 3-3 in CAA play. The Aggies lost two one-run games in the series, marking their first CAA sweep of the season.
North Carolina A&T will play at Gardner-Webb University on Tuesday, March 24. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
