Quadruple Amputee Athlete Allegedly Shoots Man, Disposes Body in Home Yard
A prominent cornhole pro and disability rights advocate was arrested in southern Maryland after a fatal shooting. Dayton James Webber, 27, faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells.
Shooting and arrest
Charles County deputies say the incident occurred on March 22 at about 10:25 p.m. Officers were flagged down near La Plata Road and Radio Station Road in La Plata.
Investigators say witnesses were in the back seat when the driver shot the front seat passenger during an argument. Webber allegedly pulled over near Radio Station Road and Llano Drive and asked for help removing the victim.
The witnesses reportedly refused, exited the vehicle, and left the scene. Deputies say Webber then fled with the victim still inside the car.
Officers later discovered the victim’s body in a yard on Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall. Police tracked Webber to a Virginia hospital and arrested him pending extradition to Charles County.
Profiles and public recognition
Webber rose to national attention as a professional American Cornhole League player. He was accepted as a pro in 2021 and became the league’s first quadruple amputee competitor.
He lost all four limbs to a severe streptococcus infection at about 10 months old. Doctors gave him only a small chance of survival, yet he became an accomplished athlete and advocate.
On the court, Webber used a hoverboard and generally avoided prosthetics. He has said prosthetic limbs did not provide the sensitivity and control he needed for competition.
Community reaction and ongoing probe
The arrest shocked fans and local residents. The case has raised questions because of Webber’s public profile as a disabled athlete and activist.
Filmogaz.com has asked law enforcement for details, including whether prosthetic limbs played any role in the incident. The sheriff’s office posted about the arrest on Facebook and continues the investigation.
