Cincinnati Dismisses Head Coach Wes Miller After 5 Seasons, Sources Report
Filmogaz.com has learned that Cincinnati dismisses head coach Wes Miller after five seasons, sources report. The university announced the decision on March 13, 2026.
Season-ending loss sealed the decision
The Bearcats finished the season 18-15. They did not reach the NCAA tournament in any of Miller’s five seasons.
Cincinnati rallied late in the schedule, winning seven of nine games. But a must-win Big 12 tournament game against UCF ended in overtime. The Bearcats surrendered an eight-point lead in the final two minutes and lost 66-65.
Coaching tenure and team performance
Miller was hired in 2021 to replace John Brannen. He arrived after a decade at UNC Greensboro.
His Cincinnati seasons included an 18-15 debut, a 23-13 campaign in 2022-23, and a 22-15 mark in 2023-24. None of those years produced an NCAA tournament berth.
Last season began with high expectations. Cincinnati entered the year ranked No. 20 in the preseason AP poll and rose to No. 14 after a 10-1 start. The team then went 7-13 in Big 12 play and fell short of the bubble.
Contract status and financial terms
Miller still has three years remaining on his contract. The buyout provisions vary by date.
If dismissed before March 31, 2026, he is owed $9.9 million. If fired on April 1 or later, the figure drops to $4.69 million.
Previous success and personal background
Before Cincinnati, Miller spent 10 seasons at UNC Greensboro. He posted at least 21 wins in each of his final five seasons there.
He led the Spartans to three regular-season championships. He also guided them to two NCAA tournament appearances.
Miller began his college career at James Madison. He transferred to North Carolina and played for Roy Williams. He was part of the 2005 Tar Heels national championship team.
He is the son of Kenneth D. Miller, whose name appears on a Wake Forest athletic facility.
