China Warns of Escalating Middle East Conflict Creating ‘Vicious Cycle’
China on March 23 urged all parties involved in a Middle East conflict affecting the Strait of Hormuz to stop military operations. The call urged a swift return to negotiations to prevent broader chaos in the region.
Beijing’s message
Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian delivered the warning in Beijing. He stressed that continuing hostilities risk plunging the region into disorder.
Warning on escalation
Lin Jian cautioned that the use of force would only produce a “vicious cycle.” He said the conflict should not have started and must be defused quickly.
Trigger for the statement
The remarks came after a question about U.S. President Donald Trump pressing Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is a crucial shipping route for global energy and trade.
Risks highlighted
Chinese officials emphasised that further escalation would worsen the situation across the Middle East. China warned of escalating Middle East conflict, saying it could create a “vicious cycle”.
The foreign ministry urged all sides to cease military actions. Diplomacy must take precedence over force, Beijing said.
