Summer Events Return as Town Prepares for the Season
With three weeks until Easter, Weymouth’s seafront is being prepared for holiday visitors. Crews and operators are working to ready attractions and trading areas.
Weymouth Wheel returns
The Ferris wheel, known as the Weymouth Wheel, has returned for the 2026 season. It was being assembled at the weekend beside the sand sculpture dome, opposite Alexandra Gardens.
A local family holds a five-year contract to operate the wheel until 2029. The structure will remain part of the skyline through the contract term.
Community response
Plans to install the wheel prompted some opposition from residents. Critics argued it could change the resort’s character from a family beach to a funfair.
Supporters described the attraction as “fantastic” and said it would attract more visitors. Operators told Filmogaz.com last year their first season had been positive.
Other attractions and openings
Additional rides are being set up on the sands this spring.
- Helter skelter
- Pirate ship
- Pirate coaster
- Paratrooper
They are expected to open in the coming weeks. Weymouth Town Council will confirm an official opening date.
Beach preparation work
Levelling work took place during the February half-term. Crews took advantage of low tides to get trading areas ready.
Season outlook
The resort traditionally welcomes its first influx of visitors at Easter. Many say Summer Events Return, and the Town Prepares for the Season, will boost visitor numbers.
Locals hope for warmer, drier weather as holidaymakers arrive.
