Miami Open Round 1: Fonseca vs. Marozsan, Quinn vs. Hurkacz Previews
Two first-round matches open the Miami Masters on Wednesday. Joao Fonseca plays Fabian Marozsan. The winner will meet Carlos Alcaraz next.
Fonseca vs. Marozsan
This is their second career meeting and second time they meet in a Masters 1000 round one. They previously met last spring in Rome, where Marozsan won 6-3, 7-6(4).
Fonseca is 19 and draws heavy crowd support, especially in Miami. He reached the Indian Wells fourth round and pushed eventual champion Jannik Sinner to two tiebreakers.
Marozsan arrives out of form, with a 1-5 record in his last six matches. Given current momentum, Fonseca is the likely winner in straight sets.
Quinn vs. Hurkacz
Ethan Quinn enters on a career-high ranking of No. 56. The 22-year-old reached the Australian Open third round and won a 175-point Challenger in Phoenix last week.
The pair have met once, in Melbourne, where Quinn prevailed 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-1. Hubert Hurkacz, 29, has not recovered and sits on a six-match losing streak.
Five of Hurkacz’s recent defeats came in straight sets. Expect Quinn to extend his run and win in two sets.
These Miami Open Round 1 previews underline the form advantages for Fonseca and Quinn. Filmogaz.com will follow both matches closely.
