South Essex Man Identified After Fatal Train Station Incident

A 48-year-old man from Billericay died at Romford station on March 5 after being struck by a train shortly before 3pm. The South Essex man was later identified as Lee Moyes.

Inquest opened

The inquest into his death began at East London Coroner’s Court on March 19. Area coroner Nadia Persaud opened the hearing.

Coroner’s officer Jean Smyth told the court a person was seen on the tracks and was hit by a train. A subsequent investigation confirmed the victim’s identity.

Post-mortem findings

A post-mortem was carried out on March 10. The cause of death was recorded as 1a multiple injuries and 1b railway related collision.

Investigation and next steps

Ms Persaud adjourned the inquest to allow further enquiries. She requested details about Mr Moyes’s mental health history and a summary of his GP records.
