Duke’s Bradds Secures Head Coach Role at Alma Mater

Belmont University has hired Evan Bradds as its next men’s basketball head coach, sources confirmed. Jon Rothstein first reported the move on March 19, 2026.

Coaching résumé

Bradds spent the 2025-26 season on Duke’s staff as an assistant. He focused on player development and worked with several key freshmen.

He began his professional career with the Boston Celtics organization. He served as an assistant coach and video coordinator with the Maine Red Claws before joining the Celtics’ player enhancement staff.

Bradds later joined the Utah Jazz in 2022, working in player development under head coach Will Hardy. He also worked under Brad Stevens and Ime Udoka while with Boston.

Impact at Duke

Bradds was hired to Duke after the 2024-25 season. His first season with the Blue Devils was 2025-26.

At Duke, he helped develop freshman talents such as Cameron Boozer and Cayden Boozer. He also worked with Nik Khamenia and Dame Sarr.

His arrival followed the departure of associate head coach Jai Lucas to Miami. Bradds contributed to Duke securing the No. 1 overall 2025 recruiting class.

Playing career and Belmont ties

Bradds is a 31-year-old Belmont alumnus and a former standout for the Bruins. He played in 129 career games and starred for four seasons.

He averaged 14.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. His shooting splits were 66.7% from the field, 32.4% from three, and 70.1% from the free-throw line.

The 6’7″ forward earned two OVC Player of the Year awards. He was a two-time All-OVC Tournament pick and a three-time All-OVC selection.

Bradds led the NCAA in field-goal percentage in his sophomore and junior seasons. He also received Associated Press honorable mention All-America honors twice.

Program context and succession

Belmont completed the season 26-6 overall and 16-4 in conference play. The program now competes in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Casey Alexander left Belmont after the season to accept the head coaching job at Kansas State. That vacancy opened the door for an alumnus to return.
