Summer Lee Initiates Impeachment of Attorney General Pam Bondi Amid GOP Subpoena

U.S. Rep. Summer Lee and five House Democrats formally filed articles of impeachment against Attorney General Pam Bondi on Tuesday. The move stems from her handling of files tied to Jeffrey Epstein and concerns about political influence at the Justice Department.

Accusations in the impeachment resolution

The resolution alleges Bondi ignored a prior Oversight Committee subpoena. Lawmakers say she refused to release full, unredacted Epstein files.

It also claims she denied compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act. That law was signed by President Donald Trump on Nov. 19.

Additional charges include alleged abuse of investigatory and prosecutorial powers. The measure asserts she defied court orders and misled Congress for political purposes.

Committee action and subpoena

The GOP-controlled House Oversight Committee issued a subpoena calling for Bondi to testify next month. Lee serves on that committee.

Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche are set to brief committee members privately on Wednesday. An Oversight subcommittee had approved a Lee motion last July to subpoena the Justice Department.

Political responses

Lee, a Democrat from Swissvale, framed her move as a defense of impartial justice. She argued the department must serve the public without political bias.

The White House praised Bondi’s work on the administration’s law-and-order agenda. Spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told Filmogaz.com that Bondi has been effective and hardworking.

President Trump also recently lauded Bondi at a White House event. He described her as tough and offered strong public support.

Next steps

The impeachment articles begin a formal process in the House. The subpoena and the upcoming briefing add pressure ahead of possible hearings.

Both legal and political reviews are likely to follow. The developments will shape debates over accountability at the Justice Department.
