Cromer Church Hosts Captivating Cotswolds Concert

The Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society will present a themed evening at Cromer Parish Church next month. The programme, titled “Harmony in the Cotswolds,” focuses on two major composers linked to the region.

Programme highlights

The concert includes Sir Edward Elgar’s The Music Makers. It also features a selection of Samuel Sebastian Wesley anthems. One of those is Thou Wilt Keep Him in Perfect Peace.

This April marks 150 years since Wesley’s death. He was the grandson of hymn-writer Charles Wesley.

Historical links

Samuel Sebastian Wesley served as organist at Hereford and Gloucester cathedrals. His work made a lasting contribution to English church music.

Edward Elgar spent much of his life in Worcestershire near the Cotswolds. The Malvern Hills inspired many of his compositions and his ties to the Three Choirs Festival are well known.

Performers and leadership

The choir will be conducted by Musical Director David Ballard. William Falconer will accompany on the organ.

Soprano Jasmine Pierce is among the soloists. The choir welcomes mezzo-soprano Dr Susannah Self, known locally as a composer, conductor and singer.

The concert takes place at 7pm on Saturday 18 April in Cromer Parish Church. The Cromer Church audience can expect a captivating evening of Cotswolds-themed music.
