Gorillaz Top Rock & Alternative Albums Chart with ‘The Mountain’

Gorillaz have reclaimed the top spot on Billboard’s Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart. ‘The Mountain’ leads the March 14-dated survey, marking the group’s fourth No.1 there.

On Billboard’s Gorillaz Top Rock & Alternative Albums Chart, ‘The Mountain’ reached No.1 on the March 14 survey. It is their second consecutive No.1, following Cracker Island’s one-week reign last year.

The album debuts at No.7 on the all-genre Billboard 200 this week. This marks Gorillaz’s seventh top-10 entry dating back to Demon Days.

Sales and consumption

Luminate reports The Mountain earned 53,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. Those totals cover the week ending March 5.

Sales comprised 38,000 of the units, with 19,000 sold on vinyl.

Songs and streaming activity

Three tracks from The Mountain chart on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs. ‘The Moon Cave’ debuts at No.24 as the week’s highest new entry.

The track features Asha Puthli, Bobby Womack, David Jolicoeur, Jalen Ngonda and Black Thought. ‘The Moon Cave’ logged 2.4 million official U.S. streams in the week.

Singles and airplay

Lead single ‘The Happy Dictator’ features Sparks. It reached No.21 on Adult Alternative Airplay last year.

It also hit No.28 on Alternative Airplay. ‘Orange County’ is bubbling under Adult Alternative Airplay.

That song includes contributions from Bizarrap, Kara Jackson and Anoushka Shankar.

Chart history

Gorillaz first topped the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart with Plastic Beach in 2010. They returned to No.1 with Humanz in 2017.

The group also appeared on the chart’s inaugural tally. Demon Days ranked No.7 on the first Jan. 14, 2006 list.
