Warm Spring Weather Brings Sunny Spells This Week

Warm Spring Weather Brings Sunny Spells This Week

A warm and pleasant spell of spring weather is set to develop across much of the UK this week. Northern areas should see heavy rain and blustery winds clear steadily, though conditions will remain changeable at times.

Current picture and northern clearing

Some regions face increasingly unsettled conditions today. Brighter spells are possible across eastern areas during the morning.

Rain will move eastwards through the day. It will become lighter and more patchy in many places.

The far south is expected to remain largely dry. Daytime highs there will sit near seasonal averages, around 13-14°C.

Tuesday outlook

Tuesday starts cloudy across much of the UK. Skies should gradually brighten for England and Wales.

England and Wales will see increasing sunny spells this week where the cloud breaks. Scotland and Northern Ireland will keep thicker cloud. Further outbreaks of rain are likely there.

Where sunshine develops in the south and west, and around the Moray coast, temperatures could reach 15-16°C. An isolated 17°C is possible in sheltered spots.

Midweek warmth and the Foehn effect

Wednesday looks likely to be the warmest day of the week for many areas. High pressure is expected to dominate the weather pattern.

The warmest readings should occur in parts of west Wales and western England. Temperatures of 18-19°C are likely, with isolated values near 20°C due to a Foehn-like effect.

Clear daytime skies will increase the diurnal temperature range. Nights may turn chilly, and a few places could see air frost.

Late-week conditions

Thursday is forecast to be dry and settled, with plenty of sunshine. Friday should see temperatures ease back toward the seasonal average.

Scotland, winds and recent observations

Northwest Scotland can expect cloud and rain spilling eastwards, with heavy and persistent falls in places. Strengthening southwesterly winds are likely across the UK.

The Met Office shared these details in a message dated March 16, 2026.
