WTA Miami Day 1 Predictions: Siniakova vs Osorio Showdown
Day 1 at the WTA Miami Open features ten first-round matches. Two of those matches are the focus here. Rain delayed two qualifying matches from Monday.
Qualifying matches to watch
Bianca Andreescu vs Katie Volynets
Andreescu leads the head-to-head 2-0. She has rebuilt form at lower levels and climbed back into the top 150.
She recently completed a comeback in qualifying against Lamens. That followed a long trip from Austin and heavy match load.
Andreescu has played six matches in seven days, with five going the distance. With fitness question marks, this could become a gruelling baseline duel.
Prediction: Volynets in 3.
Donna Vekic vs Lulu Sun
Vekic holds a 1-0 advantage in their meetings. She showed emotion in Merida after a loss to Cristina Bucsa.
She also took a set from Jessica Pegula in Indian Wells. Vekic reached a Wimbledon quarterfinal less than two years ago.
Sun has struggled this season, with a win over Emma Navarro her main highlight. Expect Vekic’s aggression to produce a higher winner count.
Prediction: Vekic in 2.
Main-draw first-round highlights
Laura Siegemund vs Petra Marcinko
Siegemund leads their head-to-head 1-0 after a meeting in Indian Wells less than two weeks ago. Siegemund has won two of seven matches this season.
Marcinko is in her first full WTA Tour season and still seeking breakthrough results. She produced more aces and initiative in their previous meeting.
The quicker Miami courts could favour Marcinko’s power and serve. Expect a tight match with momentum swings.
Prediction: Marcinko in 3.
Katerina Siniakova vs Camila Osorio
Their head-to-head is tied 1-1. Siniakova retired in Indian Wells against Svitolina but later won the doubles title there.
Osorio captured a hard-court title at the Manila 125K. She also posted consecutive match wins in two recent WTA 1000 events.
They met in Doha a month ago, where Osorio prevailed. On WTA Miami Day 1, predictions lean toward another close duel. Osorio’s rally tolerance could be decisive in this showdown between Siniakova and Osorio.
Prediction: Osorio in 3.
