Ex-Spartans Trio Compete in NCAA Tournament with New Teams This Week

Michigan State is headed to the NCAA Tournament for a 28th straight season. Three former Spartans will also appear this week with new teams.

Filmogaz.com reports that an Ex-Spartans Trio Compete in NCAA Tournament with New Teams This Week, including players now at NC State, UCLA, and Santa Clara.

Tre Holloman — NC State

Tre Holloman and the NC State Wolfpack play Texas in a First Four game. Tipoff is Tuesday at 9:15 p.m. ET in Dayton.

Holloman started most of the season. He averaged 9.3 points and 2.0 assists in about 25 minutes per game.

This is his final year of eligibility unless a waiver is granted. NC State’s loss would end his college career immediately.

Xavier Booker — UCLA

Xavier Booker and UCLA face UCF in the first round on Friday at 7:25 p.m. ET. Booker has been a regular starter for the Bruins.

He averaged 6.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. Booker played a role in UCLA’s upset of Michigan State in last week’s Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals.

Tyler Bilodeau’s injury from the Big Ten Tournament could increase Booker’s minutes. If both teams advance, they could meet again in the Sweet 16.

Gehrig Normand — Santa Clara

Gehrig Normand’s Santa Clara team draws Kentucky on Friday at 12:15 p.m. ET. The Broncos are in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 30 years.

Normand transferred from Michigan State last offseason. He struggled with injuries at MSU and missed the season at Santa Clara.

He will not suit up this week. Still, his connection to the program makes the game an intriguing storyline.
