District Line Disrupted After Trespass and Medical Incidents; Hammersmith & City Part Suspended
Rush-hour services on the District Line are disrupted after separate incidents on the network, with parts of the Hammersmith & City line also suspended while staff respond to trespass and medical events at Barking and Upney.
District Line disruption and medical incident
Passengers on the District Line faced delays and suspensions across east London. One update noted severe delays on westbound services between Upminster and Earl’s Court while staff assisted a person who became ill on a train at Barking. Other coverage described a part suspension with no service between Upminster and Plaistow while teams dealt with a trespasser on the track at Upney.
Additional updates described more limited impacts elsewhere on the line, including minor delays between Tower Hill and Ealing Broadway / Richmond attributed to an earlier trespass at Upney. Several notices urged passengers to check before travelling and to allow extra time for journeys, while other parts of the District Line were running a good service.
Hammersmith & City line part suspended after trespass at Barking
The Hammersmith & City line was partly suspended following a trespasser on the track at Barking. One update said there was no eastbound service between Hammersmith and Edgware Road, and described severe delays on the remainder of the line. Another update gave the suspension as between Liverpool Street and Barking while staff responded to the incident at Barking, with the rest of the line providing a good service.
Ticket acceptance, road restrictions and wider impacts
Transport for London said London Underground tickets are being accepted on London buses, the Elizabeth line, c2c and the Docklands Light Railway while disruption continues. Other notices listed the DLR and c2c as alternative options for affected passengers.
Road disruption was reported around Barking, with lane closures on the exit slip towards London Road and additional restrictions around Barking Roundabout. A closure of lane two (of two) on an exit slip of the A406 North Circular Road at the junction with the A124 Barking Road was in place for utility works. There were also reports of a closed lane on the eastbound A13 Newham Way between the A406 North Circular Road and the A117 High Street South following a collapsed manhole cover.
Elsewhere, an earlier incident on the M25 had cleared and normal traffic conditions were expected to resume between 12: 30 pm ET and 12: 45 pm ET, with drivers having experienced delays of around 10 minutes against normal traffic levels. The Elizabeth line was reported as providing a good service while the Underground incidents were dealt with.
Transport and rail staff continued to manage the incidents. Passengers were advised to check service updates before travelling and to allow extra time for journeys while investigations and recovery work continued.
