Cheeky! Nandos Hopes To Open New Portsmouth Chicken Restaurant Next To KFC
Plans have been submitted for a nandos restaurant to take over a former bed shop unit at the Fratton Way retail site in Portsmouth, with proposed shopfront and illuminated signage included in the application.
Nandos Plans And Signage Details
The planning application seeks permission to convert unit 2 of the Fratton Way site, previously occupied by Bensons for Beds, into a nandos outlet. The application includes proposals for two externally illuminated fascia signs, one internally illuminated menu board, and one internally illuminated Barci cockerel sign to be displayed on the building.
Location And Neighbouring Fast-Food Outlets
The unit sits within a retail centre near Fratton Park and is part of the Pompey Centre area of Portsmouth. The building is already shared by a KFC, and if approval is granted the new restaurant would join other fast-food operators in the same retail complex, including McDonald’s and KFC.
Application Status And Local Context
The planning submission carries the reference number 26/00167/ADV and, at the time of writing, did not have any objections listed on the planning record. The former bed shop is currently vacant, and the proposal would reuse that showroom space for the chicken restaurant. The operator stated in the application materials that it already runs a large number of outlets nationally, with multiple locations in the wider Hampshire area, including one in Portsmouth’s Gunwharf Quays.
If the proposal receives planning approval, the new outlet would move into the former Bensons for Beds showroom and display the submitted shopfront signage as part of its fit-out. The planning record and signage details remain the key items for the local authority to determine before any change of use or external signage work can proceed.
