Transit Signal Priority Enhances Line 6 Finch West and Line 5 Eglinton

Transit Signal Priority Enhances Line 6 Finch West and Line 5 Eglinton

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has announced improvements for riders on Lines 5 and 6. These enhancements come through the implementation of transit signal priority, aimed at reducing travel times.

Transit Signal Priority Benefits

Transit signal priority allows Light Rail Transit (LRT) trains to maneuver through intersections before vehicles making left turns. This system is designed to enhance overall efficiency and improve the experience for transit users.

Recent Implementations

Since late last month, specific traffic signals on street-level sections of both lines have been adjusted. Key areas benefiting from these changes include:

  • Finch Avenue West at Milady Road
  • Finch Avenue West at Pearldale Avenue (near Pearldale station)
  • Finch Avenue West at Duncanwoods Drive (near Duncanwoods station)

Specific Intersections with Enhanced Transit Signal Priority

Transit signal priority has been independently established at all intersections along Line 6. For Line 5, the following intersections are now optimized:

  • Victoria Park Avenue
  • Eglinton Square/O’Connor Drive
  • Pharmacy Avenue
  • Hakimi Avenue/Lebovic Avenue
  • Warden Avenue
  • Sinnott Road/Thermos Road
  • Rosemount Drive
  • Ionview Avenue

Future Improvements

City officials are committed to further enhancements. They plan to implement more dynamic and responsive signal systems in real time. Users can expect these upgrades to roll out in the upcoming months.

TTC’s efforts reflect a broader goal to optimize public transit and provide a reliable commuting experience for residents using Lines 5 and 6.
