Drivers in Philadelphia are witnessing a dramatic increase in gas prices, leaving many astonished. As prices soar at gas stations, some customers are faced with bills they haven’t seen in years.
Impact of Rising Gas Prices
In Delaware County, many motorists are closely monitoring the escalating prices. Tom Riches from Wilmington expressed his shock, noting, “Is this going to hit $100?” His concerns were echoed by others, like Ryan Benson from Media, who spent $72 to fill half of his tank.
Madeline Delaney, also from Media, reported a noticeable increase of about $10 more than her typical fill-up. She usually spends around $45 but found herself spending significantly more recently.

According to AAA, fuel prices have surged by 42 cents in just one week across the five-county area surrounding Philadelphia. Jana Tidwell of AAA highlighted that this sudden jump represents significant sticker shock for drivers.

As prices keep ascending, State Senator Lisa Boscola has proposed legislation to suspend gas and diesel taxes for 60 days. She argued that it is the government’s responsibility to address affordability issues affecting Pennsylvania families and businesses.
Pennsylvania currently has one of the highest state gasoline taxes in the nation, at approximately 57 cents per gallon. As drivers navigate these fluctuating prices, the potential for relief remains a pressing topic of discussion across the region.
