Liverpool Unveils Ambitious 70-Storey Tower Plan
Liverpool is poised to embark on an ambitious project featuring a stunning 70-storey tower. This landmark development, designed by the architectural firm SimpsonHaugh, will include a five-star hotel and luxurious residences.
Key Details of the Tower Development
This new tower follows the recent approval of the 28-storey No. 1 Kings, which received consent from the Liverpool City Council. Demolition works for the area will commence this spring, executed by Davos Property Developments Limited along with Beetham Davos Ltd.
A Statement of Confidence
Hugh Frost, chairman of Beetham Davos, expressed strong confidence in the project, stating it is a “signature building” that highlights their faith in Liverpool’s growth and the support from the local council.
Hotel and Residence Features
- The hotel will occupy the first 23 floors of the tower, offering 212 high-specification rooms.
- The remaining floors will consist of 563 luxury residences.
- Amenities will include bars, restaurants, gym facilities, event spaces, and a rooftop terrace.
Height and Competition
The tower is expected to reach a height of 727 feet. This will make it the tallest building in Liverpool, surpassing the current tallest, the West Tower, which stands at 459 feet.
Future Growth in Liverpool
Frost also noted the anticipated growth in cruise arrivals to Liverpool, with 135 cruise ships expected during the 2026 season. The demand for the hotel is likely to rise, driven by cruise enthusiasts looking for a luxurious experience both on and off their vessels.
Emerging Masterplan
This tower forms part of a broader vision for the site, which includes ten proposed buildings. Public consultation regarding the masterplan will begin later this spring, with an expected planning application submission in late summer. Key features of the masterplan include:
- Residential towers and two hotels
- Grade A office spaces
- A new arts venue
- Shared workspaces for startups and tech companies
- A diverse range of food and beverage outlets
The hybrid planning application will seek detailed consent for site layout and services, along with outline consent for each proposed building plot. This ambitious plan signifies Liverpool’s vibrant future and commitment to growth.
