MG Unveils Budget-Friendly MG4 Urban EV Launching Next Month
MG has recently gained approval to introduce its MG4 Urban electric vehicle in Australia. This model is set to be the most affordable electric vehicle in the country, with a starting price projected around $30,000 AUD. Initially teased in China last year, the MG4 Urban is anticipated to launch in Australia in April 2026, adding to the growing range of budget-friendly EV options available.
MG4 Urban Specifications
Details about the specifications and pricing of the MG4 Urban will be disclosed closer to its local launch. However, initial information suggests it will offer two battery pack options:
- 43 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery.
- 54 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery.
This urban model aims to cater to those seeking a practical and eco-friendly transport option. With a maximum output of 110 kW for the smaller motor, and 118 kW for the larger variant, it promises a compelling blend of technology and efficiency.
Spacious Interior and Charging Features
The MG4 Urban is designed to comfortably accommodate four adults and offers impressive storage space. With rear seats folded down, the boot capacity expands to 1,300 litres. The vehicle will have rapid DC charging capabilities, allowing drivers to charge from 10–80% in approximately 30 minutes.
Market Position and Competitors
MG’s new offering will join the existing rear-wheel-drive model, which has seen great success since its debut in 2023, with over 13,000 units sold. Price adjustments for the current model have been noted, especially during driveaway offers, with the entry-level 51 kWh version priced just above $36,000.
The arrival of the MG4 Urban could further solidify MG’s presence in the competitive affordable hatchback segment. Dimitri Andreatidis, marketing director of MG Motor Australia, emphasized the vehicle’s appeal to both environmentally conscious drivers and those looking for accessible electric options.
In conclusion, the MG4 Urban, with its competitive pricing and innovative features, is poised to become a popular choice among Australian consumers as the demand for affordable electric vehicles continues to rise.
