Tragedy struck Chester County when a Pennsylvania state trooper was fatally shot during a traffic stop late Sunday evening. The officer, identified as Corporal Timothy O’Connor, was honored by Governor Josh Shapiro in a press conference following the incident.

The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Compass and Michael roads in West Caln Township. O’Connor had responded to reports of an erratic driver in the Honey Brook area at approximately 8:16 p.m.
He successfully pulled the vehicle over at 8:24 p.m. on PA Route 10. However, when backup units failed to hear from him, they arrived at the scene and discovered O’Connor had been shot. The assailant fired through the driver-side window as O’Connor approached the car.
The suspect, a 32-year-old from Chester County, subsequently took his own life a short distance from the vehicle.
