Annual ‘Pack the Pub’ Fundraiser Kicks Off with Surging Food Demand
The annual “Pack the Pub” fundraiser is set to begin as St. Patrick’s Day Weekend approaches. This beloved event encourages community members to visit a designated pub and contribute to a worthy cause. Specifically, donations will support the Community Food Sharing Association, which has seen increasing food demand in recent years.
Event Details
The fundraiser will take place at the pub on Duckworth Street, directly across from the Mary Brown’s Centre. Participants can provide donations in both monetary and food form.
Food Demand on the Rise
Tina Bishop, the general manager of the Community Food Sharing Association, highlighted the urgent need for support. The organization recently spent $200,000 on food to meet the growing demand. Bishop stated, “The cost of purchasing product is real, and we have to do that.”
A Call for Support
The association is currently operating out of separate office and warehouse locations. However, plans for a larger facility are underway. Bishop mentioned the need for collaboration with partners, supporters, and government agencies. This expansion would enable them to serve the province more effectively and provide more nutritious food options.
