In the video message the Duke said, “I just wanted to wish you all the best for the forthcoming Games in Italy, ” and told athletes he hoped they would “show them exactly what you can do. ” Edward, who has been patron of the British Paralympic Association since 2003, also visited Italy during the recent Olympic Games and joined celebrations after Britain secured its first gold medal there.
Flagbearers Scott Meenagh and Menna Fitzpatrick at Milano Cortina
Scott Meenagh and Menna Fitzpatrick have been named Team GB’s flagbearers for the opening ceremony, a role highlighted in coverage ahead of the Games. Meenagh, a 36-year-old former Parachute Regiment soldier, lost both of his legs in 2011 after stepping on an IED in Helmand Province and later captained the British team at the first Invictus Games in 2014. He became the first Briton in two decades to compete in Nordic skiing at the 2018 Paralympics and in 2022 was part of the first British team to complete the 4 × 2. 5km relay event at the Paralympic Games.
The Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games run from March 6 to March 15; the opening ceremony on March 6 will feature the flagbearing appearance and further ceremony timing is expected March 6 at 9: 00 a. m. ET.
