AAIP Invites Workers to Settle in Rural Communities

Alberta’s Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) has announced its latest invitation for workers interested in settling in rural communities. This draw, conducted on February 26, follows closely on a draw for the Tourism and Hospitality Stream just two days earlier. As the 13th draw of the year, it highlights Alberta’s commitment to attracting skilled labor to its rural areas.

Recent AAIP Draw Details

The AAIP updated its records on March 4, revealing the details of its February invitations. The key aspects of the draw are:

  • Stream: Rural Renewal Stream
  • Minimum Score: 55
  • Invitations Issued: 30

This marks the second draw in February focused on the Rural Renewal Stream. In comparison, the first draw issued 212 invitations with a cut-off score of 54.

Eligibility Criteria for the Rural Renewal Stream

To qualify for permanent residency through the Rural Renewal Stream, applicants must meet specific requirements:

  • Possess an Endorsement of Candidate letter from the designated community.
  • Hold a job offer from an employer in Alberta for an eligible occupation.
  • Demonstrate at least 12 months of full-time work experience in the past 18 months.
  • Meet language proficiency criteria, varying by the job’s TEER category.
  • Have a Canadian high school diploma or a foreign equivalent.
  • Show sufficient settlement funds based on family size and community population.

Provincial Nomination Overview

In 2026, Alberta received a total of 6,403 nominations from the federal government. So far, 822 have been utilized, leaving 5,581 available. Currently, 1,147 applications are awaiting processing within the AAIP.

Worker Expressions of Interest

As of March 4, 2026, there are 45,390 Expressions of Interest (EOIs) in the candidate selection pool for the AAIP. The distribution of these EOIs by stream is as follows:

  • Alberta Opportunity Stream: 28,930 EOIs
  • Rural Renewal Stream: 2,936 EOIs
  • Tourism and Hospitality Stream: 4,586 EOIs
  • Dedicated Health Care Pathways: 1,582 EOIs
  • Others: Various numbers across additional streams.

Eligible workers are encouraged to apply for settlement opportunities in Alberta’s rural communities as the province seeks to bolster its economy and support population growth.
