Moorhead Spuds Hockey advance to Class 2A final with semifinal win over Edina
Moorhead Spuds Hockey defeated the No. 3 Edina Hornets in the MSHSL Class 2A semifinal Friday at Grand Casino Arena, delivering the Spuds a berth in the championship game and setting up a match with Minnetonka on Saturday.

The No. 2 Moorhead Spuds (26-3-1) topped the No. 3 Edina Hornets (22-7-1) in the Class 2A semifinal staged at Grand Casino Arena, after a game that had been scheduled to begin at 8 p. m. ET, roughly 30 minutes after the Minnetonka vs. Rosemount contest. The two programs met earlier this season, when Moorhead won 6-3, and the teams also faced off in the 2025 semifinals, a game the Spuds won 4-3.
What winning the semifinal means: Minnetonka awaits in the final
With the semifinal victory, Moorhead will play Minnetonka in the Class 2A championship game on Saturday at 7 p. m. at Grand Casino Arena. The bracket place for the winner had been set: the victor of Friday's Moorhead–Edina game would meet Minnetonka for the title the following evening at 7 p. m.
Edina’s route: a quarterfinal hat trick and a state-tournament return
Edina reached the semifinal after a 3-1 quarterfinal victory over No. 6 Andover at Grand Casino Arena on March 5, paced by junior forward Bode McConnell’s first-period hat trick; McConnell entered the state tournament with 36 goals for the season. Moorhead advanced to the semifinal earlier with a 4-1 win over Lakeville South, setting the stage for the East-versus-West rematch at the arena.
The schedule now points to the Class 2A championship game on Saturday at 7 p. m. at Grand Casino Arena between Moorhead and Minnetonka.
